If anyone was wondering if we at Westfall | Group are really in touch with what it is like to get and keep a company off the ground, rest assured we are. As evidence, you just have to look at how the rollout of our new website and blog have taken longer than expected (note: both are still being tweaked as we speak). Of course rolling out sites, services and products in beta form is not new and is in fact growing in adoption.
Companies find that bringing in outside users and getting their real world feedback is crucial in not only making the offering as good as possible but also in building a lasting dialogue with that community of users. So we don’t feel too guilty about the delays. And as we put the finishing touches on our sites, recognizing that in reality they are both evolving things that will never be “finished,” we are in the process of evaluating the best places for us to spend our precious time in the world of social networking.
Now you may be thinking that we already are knee-deep into the world of social media and interactions. Well the answer is yes…and no. Yes, we have spent a great deal of time and energy developing techniques and tools to help our clients navigate the social media world. But no, we have (as many a small company do) neglected our own networking and connection building. Easy to understand: only so many hours in the day, client work comes first, running the business comes second, identifying and implementing new ideas is third, and sleep somewhere in the top twenty. But not excusable: bottom line we need to do a better job practicing what we preach.
Which in the world of social media is not easy, again with only so much time and resources and so many options for planting our interaction flag. We are employing our Reverse/Domino thought process by working our way backward from the ideal relationship all the way down to the sites we should focus on, the type of material and content we should put on them, the profile of the kind of person we hope to connect with, and how we can offer something of value to them. This is a lot of work and we’ll also be doing a lot of trial and error, looking at places beyond the standard bearers like Facebook and LinkedIn to smaller, niche environments.
So be on the lookout, ‘cause we’ll be out there soon, but in the meantime, if anybody has any suggestions of a place they would like us to check out, let us know.
Inside the Group is the discussion and brainstorming world of evolution firm Westfall | Group
